Sad demise of famous Dr. Krishnagopal from Vadamalayan Hospital, Madurai
Organs of the doctor donated to various hospitals in the state
Chennai, December 31, 2009 – Dr. K. Krishnagopal, famous Cardiothoracic surgeon at Vadamalayan Heart foundation set up by him as a part of Vadamalayan hospital, Madurai had an ill-fated fall at his residence on 26th December 2009. After a five day long intensive care at Vadamalayan Hospital, he was declared brain dead today. His organs were donated to various hospitals in the state.
The family of the doctor had agreed to have his heart donated to Dr. K.M. Cherian’s Frontier Lifeline Hospital and one of his kidneys is being sent to Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Research Center (MMHRC) in Madurai and the other kidney to a hospital in Tirunelveli.
Dr. Krishnagopal, aged 40 was the Chief Cardiothoracic surgeon of Vadamalayan Heart Foundation, a unit of Vadamalyan Hospital in Madurai. On 26th December, saturday, Dr. Krishnagopal suffered a very unfortunate fall at his residence and sustained severe head injuries. He was rushed to Vadamalayan hospital by ambulance and underwent intensive treatment by his close associates and colleagues at the hospital. After being declared brain dead on Thursday, December 31, 2009, the doctor’s family decided to donate his organs.
Ms. Jeyapriya, wife of Dr. Krishnagopal said “He always believed in serving the society and gave up a lucrative career in Singapore in order to serve the people in his motherland. Having made so many hearts beat successfully, it’s our wish for his heart to continue beating. He has always been an advocate of organ donation. Through this decision, he has participated in his final act of serving the society”.
Dr. Krishna Gopal had graduated in MCh from JIPMER in the year 2000. After which, he qualified with a FRCS from Edinburgh University. Having been trained in Singapore and later having worked with his mentor DR. K.M. Cherian at Fronter Lifleine hospital, he had put his skills to good use by performing over 400 surgeries in the past 2 years of his service at Vadamalayan Heart Foundation.
