National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & health care Providers (NABH) is a constituent board of quality Council of India, set up to establish and operate accreditation programme for Health care organizations across the country. The hospital has successfully demonstrated the requirements of NABH standards and therefore has been awarded NABH Certification. The NABH accreditation of the hospital shall be effective from September 9, 2010 for three years.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Giridhar J Gyani observed “Quality in healthcare is of paramount importance as it directly impacts human lives. Unlike quality in other sectors, quality in healthcare relates to a hospital monitoring and measuring clinical outcome on a continuous basis. The management, consulting doctors , resident doctors, nursing staff, para medical staff all have to become a part of the quality team without which achieving accreditation is not possible. I take immense pleasure in awarding the NABH Certification to Frontier Lifeline Hospital. The effort taken by Dr. K. M. Cherian and his team is commendable.””

Dr Gyani further added “NABH has received global recognition and is the 12th country in the world to have achieved approval from International Society of Quality in Healthcare. This provides a big boost to medical tourism as we have seen the number of patients visiting India have increased many fold”

Dr. Usha Raghavan Subramanyan, NABH Coordinator, while thanking all the employees for the excellent cooperation rendered during implementing ten standards and 534 objective elements of patient care in NABH, passed on the credit to Dr. K.M.Cherian, Chairman & CEO whose continual support in all the quality endeavors made this dream a reality.

She also added, “The NABH Accreditation is a great honor and a big reassurance of the quality of care provided by the hospital. Frontier Lifeline Hospital faced the pre audit in December 2009 and the final audit in June 2010 by a team of assessors who were drawn from various parts of India. The assessors commended the organization for the excellent systems in CCU, Cardiac care, MRD, NABL Accredited lab and Blood Transfusion Services. They appreciated the top management commitment and enthusiasm of the Quality team.

We had a Visitor, from Nauru

7 Oct

We have been helping number of patients from Nauru and the health minister of Nauru was grateful to meet us in person to appreciate our work for their citizens. Medical Tourism in India is pegged at more than Rs.9500 Crores by 2015. A CII Report says that by January 2010, 3.3 million travelers had already visited India, spending close to $ 5 billion. Chennai is one of the most preferred cities in India for medical tourism due to world class doctors and hospitals available. Seeing the huge potential in the sector, the government has also started issuing M (medical) visa to the medical patients, and MX visas to the spouse accompanying him, which are valid for year. In fact, there are separate tourism packages made by Indian Tourism especially for medical tourists.

We are one of the hospitals who have been active in medical tourism and have helped a lot of foreigners with their heart problems. Nauru was one such country and we successfully treated their citizens a few weeks back. Now we have got the second set of patients, who will be treated in the hospital for heart problems. We also had their Health minister Mr. Mathew Batsiua, visiting us. Nauru is the smallest island nation in the world, situated in Micronesia in South Pacific. They have a total area of 21 Sq Kms and a total population of about 14,ooo people. Due to this, Nauru will not be able to provide advanced medical services to their citizens and for many years they were referring their patients to private hospitals in Australia. There were huge budget constraints in sending patients to Australia and now with booming medical tourism in India, Nauru has chosen India and especially Chennai as their preferred location.

Dr. Cherian greeting Mr. Mathew Batsiua, health minister of Nauru

Nauru’ Health Minister Mr. Mathew Batsiua says that  “With the lower cost of surgery in India, even with the additional travelling expenses, Nauru’s Ministry of Health can now ease the limit on the number of people for whom the government can pay for overseas medical treatment”

This visit from Nauru’s team is just the start of bigger opportunities for Indian Hospitals with respect to medical tourism. The low cost, advanced medical techniques and world class doctors are the main reasons for India’s advent in medical tourism. Frontier Lifeline is one of the forerunners in Chennai
